Do you have to update AVG off the webpage or when theres an update do they automatically install update like mcaffee? The reason I ask is mcaffee came with my computer for three months and its gonna expire in about a week.

I just installed AVG and it is similar to Inoculate it another free virus protection program that is quiting, anyway you have to enable it to get updates automatically, what I did and this is what I did with my other program is I only enable it to get updates weekly and run the virus scan, then I turn it off, if I download something I turn it on and check that download, I do not enable my email protectant either, unless I copy and save it, I have Outlook express, but don't use it, I signed up for hot mail and it scans the mail by McAfee, my mail that comes in from Outlook mail address is sent to Hot Mail, I just do not like virus protection running all the time, it uses resources and slows computer down (at least mine I have a old computer), I backup weekly to another drive and to a zip drive, incase anything happens I have a good back up copy, I also have Zone Alarm in Stealth mode which is high, so this way I do not worry about a virus. Just remember everything you save to your computer check it with the Virus scanner and you will be alright, or if you want to enable all and let it run all the time even better, when I had Nortons and if I turned it off so I could do what I just told you, it always messed up things on my computer and if you install a program make sure your virus program is off. I have not had any problem with AVG running with another AV program I have, but I have since eliminated the other one. AVG runs with very little resources, and frankly, I would rather be in the position of preventing a virus, as opposed to cleaning one out. As far as auto updates, it is there, but I prefer not to have anything doing something automatically, and there are so many programs these days which, if allowed, go online automatically. No big deal to click the icon and select "Update Now".
