When I try to open anything on my desktop I get the error " explorer has caused an error qcbar.dll". Nothing will open, except for Kazaa. My roomate downloads things all the time, but norton usually picks them up. When I went to norton, I noticed that the auto-live update was not functioning correctly. It did let me update, so it still has internet connection. I have read the other post for qcbar.dll, but I am unable to opem my browser to look at the web-sites. Has anyone survived this mess before?

I've done some diggin' on this, but I can find next to nothing about it.

Have you done a search of your hdd for "qcbar.dll"
to try and see where it is,and what it might be up to?

Try to delete all your porn from the Kazaa folder.I firmly believe that's where you got this pest.

Since you can't open your browser, you might want to try downloading a couple of AV/trojan programs to disk from another PC,
and see if you can run them on yours.

Run Spybot and Adaware.

Then,do yourself a big favor by getting rid of Kazaa, and get Kazaa-Lite if you must.Get a second AV program, such as AVG (don't run them at the same time)and scan ALL files you get from CrapZaa BEFORE opening them.

Personally,I have no sympathy for you,for letting your roommate download "whatever",and letting your guard down. You need to learn more about what it is your doing, the possible consequnces, and practicing preventitive measures.Sorry if it seems like I'm ranting, but uneducated Kazaa users is probably the worst kind of PC user. The crap you get helps spread it to the rest of us.

I will try your solutions, but it will not even let me search my hdd for files. Thanks. On a lighter note, it's not my computer. I am an amature network admin (2 years) at work and I'm just trying to help him out.

I have survived this & here's the cure...

1. connect to the internet
2. in the start menu click find...>
3. on the internet(int. exp should open this way)
4. let it fully open(between the buttons and the web page you should see an add-on bar similar to the yahoo one)
5. click the adult sites button at the bottom of the drop down menu uninstall is an option
6. click it 3x(the second 2 are for sh1ts and giggles)
7. close int. exp. and try your desktop icons
!!!they should work now!!!

tell your friend to virus scan the "my shared
folder", move it out the kazaa dir, uninstall
kazaa, if he must download use morpheus from http://www.musiccity.com and put his previous
my folder downloads into the new "my shared
folder"
