I just got a new P4 2Ghz with a Intel Desktop Board D850GB Mobo.... Well, I've had it a couple months...Anyway. I went to install Max Payne and XP locked up when the CD tried to Autorun. I had to reset (via the button) several times. After about the 10th time. While booting up fresh, it tells me that there are no device drives (hdd's) and to check the cables. I have a 20GB Maxtor [M] and an 80GB WCD [S]. They are on a Promise TX2 controler on IDE 1. -Checked cables, cables fine. Checked power, power fine. Go into BIOS, and since they run thru the controller, they dont show up in BIOS. Heres the kicker. When I hit F2 to get into BIOS, my controller tries to dectect any HDD's on it. It detects my Wester Digitial[Slave] (Non-Os) but not my Maxtor (XP OS)[Master]. Ok... so I think that my Maxtor is fried. Put in a different HDD (Maxtor 8GB) as master and it doesnt see it... hmm. So I put my WCD on master, doesnt see it... What the heck could be the probelm. I have tried hooking up 3 different (WORKING) hard drives to the IDE 1 on the controller and the MoBo as masters...*in a squeeky voice* Help!

Let me clerify the error message...

Error Message:

Intel(R) Boot Agent Version 4.0.14
Copywrite......
Intel Base-Code, PXE-2.0 (Build 082)
Copywrite......
PXE-E61: Media Test Failure, Check Cables
PXE-M0F: Exiting Intel PXE ROM
Drive Not Ready - System Halted

Also, I put my two CD-Roms on IDE 1 and both were recognized (Master and slave)... I double checked my two hard drives jumpers and they were correct, but the master wont recognize on IDE 1.

What could you possibly need 100 gigs of space for? Anywho, make sure that your jumpers are set to master and slave on your hardrives...

Try taking the jumpers out of your WCD drive. Reset default BIOS settings, clear DMA events'log, on BIOS. If persists, try delaying the extremely fast-booting WCD start up sequence a bit, so the BIOS can detect it.

I am using an IBM 120GXP 61.5GB UDMA100 on Intel 845BGL motherboard and getting the same message.
I went into the BIOS and reset the default and now I the BIOS recognises the hard drive but I still comes up with the same error.
I don't know what to try next.
If anyone has any idea please post a message.
