Want to delete my user settings(Just my name on it). Do I delete all pwl files or just the appropriate one?(looks like one particular file...same as user name.).Then after re-boot do I just cancel window when password is requested? Thanks in advance.
PS Len and Brant, cheers for previous advice.

Just delete the pwl file with your name as filename ex. Phill.pwl to clear your settings, then when you rebooted your computer ,click cancel. If you don't want this logon menu appears then you can delete all pwl files then hit cancel on logon after reboot.I hope I gave correct info..Goodluck!

If you are trying to fix your puter to where there is NO logon, delete all the *.pwl files. Then select cancel when the dialog box comes up again. Windows will regenerate the .pwl files again if you ever want to set it up again. When you are done, the puter will be set up for ONE user, with no password needed to logon.

OK, deleted user pwl file and cancelled after reboot but then lost user desktop (all my stuff)...pretty obvious I suppose. Is there a way of not losing these settings or am I just going to have to keep user log on?

Guess I knew what I was talking about after all LOL! If you co to windows \profiles\your user folder- you should see subfolders with all your stuff.

Before you do anything, create a manual restore point just to be on the safe side.
Like I said in your previous post, The contents of your user desktop can be moved (or maybe it would be better to copy) to the default desktop. The same goes for your favorites, history, start menu etc.Just look for folders in c:\windows that correspond with the folders in profiles\username.Any programs you installed from your personal desktop you will probably have to re-install from the default desktop. If you get everything running to your satisfaction, go to control panel\users and delete any and all users listed there. Then search for *.pwl files and delete any you find.

Do you have a folder C:\Windows\All Users ??
If you do not, then create it, but most likely you do, and within that folder you should have four more folders; Application Data, Desktop, DRM, and Start Menu. There may be others as well but these are the core. If you do not have these in the All Users folder, but do have them in a Profiles folder(your User name), copy them and whatever folders there are there, to All Users folder and reboot. Should give everything back.
