PS2 mouse in serial port

I have a Dell notebook (Inspiron 8000) with just 1 PS2 port available for a mouse or a keyboard. Recently I got a Microsoft Wireless Desktop keyboard, including the wireless mouse. This wireless keyboard/mouse pack comes with 2 PS2 connections, 1 for the keyboard and 1 for the mouse.
I'm trying to use the mouse with a PS2 to serial adaptor, plugging it to the serial port, but I canīt make the mouse work. The keyboard goes fine.

Is the COM port enabled in the BIOS?

Yes, it is enabled. Actually if I plug an old Logitech serial mouse to the serial port it works great. But if I try a PS2 mouse in the serial port using a PS2-to-serial cable it never works.

This sounds like a mouse driver problem. Have you tried installing it as a serial mouse or a ps2 port mouse? Vice-Versa?
