I am using PIII 500e , Voodoo3 2000, Sound blaster live, 384 Mb ram , running on ME
The (P/S2) keyboard/mouse freeze
After a one-week test of all the possible cause of my system/Keyboard/Mouse freeze. This is the test I carried out:
1.Ram testing - Dos ram testing - memt86, Burnintest - Hardware test all passed
2. Remove all spyware like morpheus, kazaa etc by running Ad-aware, Spybot. Detect Trojan by PestPatrol - find 3 possible. One is KaZaa BDE, one is ICQSkin , and one is Songspy.exe
3. Detect and remove virus - found one VBS.haptime.A@mm. Under AVG 6, TrendMicro Online, Swap It.
4. Uninstall recent software which is installed before the freeze happened.
5. The system still freeze with 200 Mb RAM remaining as it is reported by PowerTweak II ram monitor.
6. Never freeze in safe mode after few hours running (usually 3-6 hours) without any mouse/keyboard movement. It do freeze/blue screen after a few hours (usually 3-6 hours) in normal running without any mouse/keyboard movement.
7. Running GameLaunchPad to check all the background software activities.
Here is the list of running program:
ddhelp.exe
mmtask.tsk
msgsrv32.exe
pstore.exe
tapisrv.exe
rnaapp.exe
systray.exe
taskmon.exe
wmiexe.exe
stmgr.exe
I dunno if they are all safe program, tell me if some program above is strange please.
8. After freezing of P/S2 mouse/keyboard, my USB mouse still work! At the time after freezing , I use the USB mouse running BurnInTest hardware test and still report no error! But I have found that midi output fails (never hear a sound) while wave sound can still be heard
9. After frezzing of P/S2 mouse/keyboard. I use USB mouse check the control panal, there is no conflict found. But when I open keyboard driver detail. I run a bit slow, about 3-4 second to load. And no delay with mouse driver detail. Also I open GameLaunchPad to see any background program and it is the same as (7.)
Therefore, I am sure the freeze is not caused by either hardware as no error find on testing and it runs smooth after spyware is removed.
I am guessing if it is the problem of my keyboard/mouse driver. Or it is a system file corrupted? Or a previous virus/trojan infection causes unstable windows?
Since in the keyboard driver detail it mentions some .sys files. I dunno if they can corrupt or not...
Help please. Thanks
