I have an annoying problem. One day I started my computer only to get an evil blue screen saying "Windows Protection Error. You Need To Restart Your Computer. System Halted." The computer will start in safe mode but not in normal mode. I believe it is a driver conflict but how can I tell? What would cause this. My computer is only one year old, not connected to the internet and I have not installed/uninstalled anything added any new equipment and the computer had started fine earlier that day. What caused this?

Have you tried running System Restore?

Any number of things could cause this issue such as a windows update, a software update, a inproper shutdown, etc. Chances are a driver got corrupted or is conflicting with something that was updated as mentioned earlier. Windows protection errors are tpyically either modem or nic so, easiest way to test is to pull them both out and see if the PC boots, if it does, add them back in one at a time until the error returns and then get an updated driver & install it. Chances are, it will be modem or nic but, it certainly inst impossible for it to be some other device you you could have to remove other hardware but, I doubt it

NIC = Network Interface Card/Ethernet Card (the port on the back will look like a larger version of a phone jack). Can you boot into safe mode?

This is very late...but if you havent fixed your problem yet (it may be a corrupt registry), try starting your computer in safe mode and going to start/run type in
"scanreg /fix"
it will run the program and automaticlally restart. hopefully that will fix it.
