I have too many programs starting up, I want to turn on myself when needed, I know you can go to msconfig and use selective start up, but then you get that message after booting that says you are in selective start up for trouble shooting and you've got to click, My Question is How can I stop these from starting so that I can start up myself, Ive got like 15 on there, I'me sure all I need is a few, I use to have the start up Cop software, but don't think from what Ive read that it is compatable with Windows Me. Thank you Sue

Well that is alot. I hate that sort of thing myself too. There are 2 ways you can attack it.

First, some of the programs may have some way to stop it from starting at startup in their properties.

The other is to use the msconfig you mentioned. But when it gives the little message at the next start just click the box don't show me this again and click ok. It won't show you that again until you make another change but then you just do the same. Thats what I do.

do a search on google for reg clean and you can alter your start up from there a little easier , you can also use this tool for cleaning out other areas also

Do a search on cnet.com for custom startup, it's a program that will give you a list of all the programs listed to load on boot and let you turn them on and off as you please.

when you go to msconfig, on the general tab, make sure selective startup is selected. then go to startup tab and unclick all the programs you dont want to start. keep the following checked though,
system tray
pchealth
statemgr
explorer
and possibly your antivirus.

all the others uncheck.

your system will restart, and put a checkmark in the box to not show this message again for the selective startup question.

you might try also going into start, programs, look for startup, and remove all the gunk thats in there.

good luck!
