Hi
I have been having problems with win ME ever since I intstalled it, doesn't run smooth, hangs, lots of error messages etc etc.
I was very happy with win 98 though as it was a very stable fasr running os.
Can I just just (re) install win 98 "over" win ME without getting rid of ME or do any formating etc?
thanks for your help

The Windows 98 program will give you a notice that a more recent version of Windows was found on the hard drive.Follow on screen instructions. You can also remove io.sys,msdos.sys ,command.com and the Windows folder before you setup a copy of Win 98.The programs will have to be re-installed in the same folders to keep any saved data you want to retain. If you don't wish to keep the old files, format the drive and setup Windows like a new setup from the bootable cdrom or with a boot disk and cdrom.Good luck.

Don't go back to 98 until you have tried the tips on the homepage link on this response. Your system should then run perfectly well.

Do not uninstall ME. Like Trev said, a few tweaks and ME will perform beautifully. I wouldn't trade ME for anything right now.

Here is also a link you can try: http://www.techspot.com/guides-os.shtml

Scroll to the ME section and READ. Learn how to solve a problem instead of discading it.

Most problems with ME are due to user error and not the fault of the OS. With a little understanding and know how, any of the problems you are encountering can be solved.
