I have a big problem with my computer. When I startup the computer it gives the error "scanregw has caused an error in scanregw.exe. Restart the computer if this problem occurs again" At my desktop-screen, all icons are dissapeared except those that were on the desktop when I first had it (this computer, my documents, winzip, network locations, IE). It's also impossible to access the start menu. The start button remains pressed and the start menu doesn't pop up. When I try to look at files with "This Computer", I get an error that due to something of security and activeX, the screen will be displayed wrong and I can't see my drives and so it's unable to browse through the directories. When I startup in the safemode, it's also impossible to acces the start menu, but here I can browse through the maps with "this computer", but I can't copy or paste files. So I think it's impossible to put Hijackthis on my computer. What can I do about this? It started after I had removed Spyware and Adware with Ad-aware 6. Thanks already. Excuse me for the bad english but I'm from Belgium.

Arnout,

First, I have a question. Do I understand you correctly, that in safe mode, you are able to navigate through your directories(folders). If so, have you tried to start programs, directly. Double-clicking the programs *.exe. This, is what the shortcuts point to, in the start menu.

I guess, another question :-) Do you recall/remember, what was fixed/removed with Ad-Aware?

You could try, to restore a previous working registry. To do this,

Start your computer, with a Emergency Boot Disk (EBD), start disk, boot disk. They are called different things. If you don't have one. You can download one, from here. Once you've downloaded it. You will have to double-click that file, to make the boot disk. With a formatted floppy, in the computer, of course.

Where was I, oh yes ;-)

Choose minimal...Tell you what Arnout. Save myself some typing. Here is an article, that explains this. If you need help with that article, just ask, ok. That way, if you run into a similar problem, you'll have a reference point.

What I was getting at, about starting programs, and such. You might, I stress might, be able to reverse what was done. Ad-Aware(Ad-aware.exe), System Restore (RSTRUI.EXE), SCANREG.EXE, COMMAND.COM, ect.

Hope, that was of some help.

Good Luck,
CrazyOne

p.s. Your english, is better than mine
;-)
