I have Norton Anti-Virus 2002. For the past several days, the Live Update does not work.
The error message states: "LU1814: LiveUpdate could not retrieve the update list. LiveUpdate could not retrieve the catalog file of available Symantec product and component updates. Please verify that you are able to connect to the Internet and run LiveUpdate again." I am connected to the internet. My subscription to Norton Anti-Virus is current, expires in August 2004. I can't find any help on the Norton site. Can someone help me please?
Thank you.

Uninstall, then reinstall Norton 2002. As an added bonus, if you delete the Symantec folder and use a good registry cleaner before you install, your updates subscription will start over at day one.

Symantec's web site has a free tool called the HawkinsTool.exe ,which helps to completly remove the Norton anti virus applocation from your system B/4 you re-install it ! Sometimes you have to manually delete the virus definition folder when only using the add/remove programs from the Control Panel to uninstall Norton ? Also B/4 you uninstall Norton ,open it and click on help and about Norton ,on the general tab it will have your account # ,write that down so after you reinstall it ,your frist visit to live update you will have your account # handy !
Good Luck ,Nick

Thank you all who have responded to my question. Today, for whatever reason, I was finally able to click on my Norton Anti-virus
LiveUpdate and it worked! And, I haven't done anything. Maybe there was a problem with Norton recently.
I will try in the future, if I have any problems w/Norton to uninstall as you have suggested. Thank you all again.

Jinny,
I had the older version of Norton's and downloaded the 2004 version. I could not get it to work. It would scan and find viruses but that's all. I had to go out to a store and buy the software. Now everything works okay. I think they have a few glitches to worh out.

As I was downloading and opening files from Kazaa I opened one file that caused norton to disappear from the icon tray and for norton to also disable E-mail scanning even though its checked in Options. I tried reinstalling norton but it wasn't helping, it would still disappear from the icon tray a second after my computer logged on. I tried scanning my computer with both Norton and from the Symantec sites own scanner and nothing has been detected. Even before opening the forsaken file I scanned it first with norton and it said it was safe. HELP!!
