Let me explain the problem:

I have a PC with the following specifications:

* AMD Thunderbird 1000 MHz
* ECS K7S5A Motherboard
AMI BIOS V1.21.06 (Newest as on 09 Feb 2002)
* 128 MB DDR RAM
* NVidia Riva TNT 2 Model 64
The serial on the card is:
VC-TNT2M64-32M TNT 2 M 64 32MB
The Text on boot-up reads:
"NVidia TNT 2 Model 64 BIOS V2.05.13e"
* MS Windows ME (Although I had the same problem when running MS Windows 98SE.)
* Sound, 30GB HDD, FDD, Etc.

The problem with the drivers is as follow:
1. Default WinMe driver, and GLSetup V1.0.0.110 (With Quake 3).

The computer hangs when running programs like MS Powerpoint 97 / 2000 slideshows.
It will show 1-3 slides and then stop responding.

2. With newest NVidia drivers (V21.83 & V21.81).

Windows ME and 98 cannot install these drivers. It says that "the display device is not configured properly" and it only runs 640x480 16 colors.

Would anybody help me with this problem?

Run the older drivers. I actually get much better performance from the 5-7 series drivers than from any of the new ones.

I have had the same problem with packard bell and nvidia. The first problem you see is when you turn on your computer and it lists the memory capacity of the card as either 16mb or 32mb. If it lists it as 32mb then there is a motherboard conflict. Packard bell has no disable microswitch on the motherboard and nothing in the bios. When you see 16mb then it loads right but the canadian/french drivers conflict with it. I keep reinstalling the software and it works for about a month then it is almost like the computer forgets you have the 3d card. Your only hope for a solution is to spent the $300 to change motherboards. You will have majour problems uninstalling Win Me . It was a very bad choice for Me to be created. When you try to upgrade to Win Xp you will end up with 8 pagers of conflicts.

Thanks for all your input! I appreciate it a lot.

After reviewing the situation, searching for different drivers (and a "testing application") I discovered the culprit.

It seems that the problem was caused by a defective card, which I swopped out at my supplier. The new card (Riva TNT2 Pro), drivers, and DirectX works perfectly now.

My Grap.card seems to freeze randomly. Regulary with IE 5.5, none with games and always with screen savers.

I installed the lasted drivers, but run a 366Mhz CPU.

Can anyone help?

The self test driver is available at www.Driversguide.com at this adress:

Extract it and run the programs in MS-DOS.
If there is a problem with the graphics card it will tell you so.

This is the URL for the self-test software:
