I am having consistent problems with IE6 (w/ SP1) opening correctly on the first run. I am working within Windows ME. When I make a new connection and open IE, my home page comes up blank. There is no blue progress bar at the bottom, the screen stays completly white, yet the page name ( my home page is Yahoo ) shows up at the top of the page in the title bar.
I have used Spybot, and Ad - aware to remove any malicious programs ( I did find a few, "Alexa" being very persistant ). I also removed IE6 and re-installed it, twice. I have ran regsvr32 on all the .dll files associated with IE, and still it opens with the blank page. I ran the network wizard and set up a new connection , which seemed to temporarily fix the problem, until I restarted the computer.
The most maddening part is however, when I use the (CTRL+ALT+DEL) close dialog to "end task" on IE6, then re-open it, the problem is gone. IE6 will then run correctly, until my connection is broken, and I reconnect. This happens no matter how many times I close and re-open IE, so long as my connection is not broken.
I've looked through message boards until my eyes bulged, and surfed everywhere for a fix, and have done everything I know to do. So, I'm gonna post this everywhere in hopes of a solution. I have an idea that my problem may lie in the registry, but I have no idea what it might be. I'm at the point now where I am about ready to just re-install windows altogether, but I hate to use a sword where a scalpel is needed, so to speak. Any help that can be offered would be greatly appreciated. Email me if you have any ideas.

Have you run the 'Shredder'?. It looks for the CoolWebSearch - a browser hijacker. Run it and see if it finds/fixes anything. MrC CoolWebSearchChronicles

Can IE and download mozilla firebird , these are much better browsers and I have never had a problem with them , even Netscape 7.0 is better than IE . They have a lot better features like tabbed browsing .

I have the same exact problem but I haven't been able to find a way to fix it either.

You mentioned Yahoo... Are you using the Yahoo/DSL service? I'm asking because my IE6 worked fine until I installed the DSL service on my computer.

If yes, then it may be an issue between the IE6 and the DSL perhaps...?

BTW- If you find an answer, please be sure to post it and of course I'll do the same.

Cheers!
