I'm having problems with doing a full format
on 3 1/2 floppys with Windows ME.
Here's a symptom. The disk was not removed
from the drive during these tests which were
done in succession.DOS format No bytes in bad sectors
Thorough scandisk No bytes in bad sectors
Full format (ME) Bytes in bad sectors
Thorough scandisk Same number of bytes
in bad sectors
DOS format Different number of bytes
in bad sectorsTalks with manufacturer's tech support
indicate that there is an "issue" with
trying to do full formats on 3 1/2 floppys
with Windows ME that have been previously
formatted with Windows 98. He was unable
to predict what would happen if you tried
to do a full format on new disks with the
manufacturer's formatting.
Does anyone have any authoritative details
about this and what, if anything, is being
done to correct it?

i did try now full format and thorough scan disc on two floppies, one originally used in windows 98 for couple years (it probably came prefformated so dont know what computer it was formated, but definitelly not on ME...hehe) and other brand new that was factory formated. I did not find any bad sectors in neither of them. I will try to format later today in my windows 98 computer and reformat it in windows ME. I would suspect more the disc drive or the floppy disc itself. Try more floppies... their quality is not very good.

I'm having the same problem with an LS-120 Drive. The 120s format ok, but not the 1.44MB. They eventually finish, but start to show problems (apparently retrys) when it gets past 85% comlete. I also can't diskcopy a FULL disk to another disk. I ran a Dell diagnostics test, and it indicated a drive error. I still have to call Dell about a replacement.

try grduw to copy and format with
http://www.grsoftware.net/disk/software/grduw.html
30 days free use ,only counts a day when used
.also will copy MS-DMF upto 1.72mb
