After reformatting the hard drive. when I go online with my dsl modem, it works for about 5 minutes and than quits connecting. IE or netscape will say finding site and than say cannot find page. I've reformatted the hard drive about 3 times now, and when I use scan disk, it would clear the problem, but now that does not work...Any clues? Help...Adam

ada1984, SWAG, sounds to me like you are suffering from one of two maladies. First possibility that comes to my mind is that you have a modem driver problem. Is there a repair option for it? What if you reinstall over itself in the hope that it will repair itself? In case all else fails, what if you delete/reinstall?
Second thought is firewall or maybe mail setting. A firewall may be blocking and too you need to look at mail settings to be sure you don't have the box checked to hang up after checking mail.

I believe Zonealarm is srewing something up. I shut it down and make it not load at start up, and still does it...What could be the problem?

Maybe you have some bad connections on your phone line wires. Make sure all physical connections you have access to (modem, wall plug, wall plug wire screws, outside junction box) are good and not loose. Replug each several times.

DSL uses a lot more power than normal phones do, and if there is a bad connection, the higher power can cause a bad wire connection to heat up and open up. Try talking on the phone at the same time and see if you hear noise in the background or it gets bad about the time you lose the Internet access.
