Hi all,
Whenever I go to a bands website (using Internet Explorer) to download an mp3 they have up the download prompt box dosn't appear, so I can't choose to "open file from current location" or "save file as...", it just streams the mp3 in internet explorer. This just basically annoys me, I want the box to appear so I can press "open file from current location" and have it play in Winamp instead of in internet explorer. I think when it plays in internet explorer it uses quicktime. So basically, how can I get to play mp3s, videos etc direct from a website using Winamp for mp3s and Windows Media for videos? I miss my download prompt box :( lol

"open file from current location" !!
You will easily get a virus this way.
I would suggest you 'save to a folder' then virus check before you open anything. Not sure if this is what you have to do, but...
Go to START - SETTINGS - CONTROL PANEL - INTERNET OPTIONS - ADVANCED. Look down the list under SECURITY - CHECK FOR PUBLISHERS CERTIFICATE. Put a check in this box and click APPLY - OK.(you may have to restart the PC). Post back if this is it or if you are still having problems.

Kev,
Have to admit, you have me confused, as to what you are trying to do ;-)
Are you trying to download the sound file, as you said in your subject.
"Problem when downloading sound file"Or, are you trying to stream the file? Either way, right-click the link, and see what you get for options. Might just be one you like, or maybe not ;-)

Ok I did seem a little confusing there. What I want to do:
Click on link to mp3 on website, have Windows download prompt appear with "Open file from current location" or "Save file as". (I generally trust official website mp3s so I don't worry about getting a virus off them). At the moment when I click the link to the mp3, the download prompt dosn't appear and the website just starts playing the file in internet explorer instead of Winamp. I've tried clicking on mp3s that have gave my desired result previously but it still hasnt worked and they continue to just play in internet explorer instead.
Hope thats more clear :-\

Kev,
As I, hope this is clear. Open win media player.
Go, Tools, Options, File Types (tab)
And uncheck MP3 audio file (mp3)
Click OK. Close the player, and try it now.I'm assuming, you meant the player would open, and start playing the song. If not, correct me. Please :-)

Tools, Internet Options, Advanced (tab), (under) Multimedia, uncheck Play sounds
Got me, I guess I don't deal with those type of files. Sorry, good luck.

I fixed it!! I had to fool around with the Quicktime Internet Explorer plug-in settings and told it to play no audio at all.
Thanks for your help guys!!!

Kev,
Glad to here it, and you're welcome. Wish I could of helped. But, as I said, don't deal with those files. Well, on the internet anyway ;-)
