Problem re Win Explorer / OLE32.DLL

Comment:
An application I have written is running on Windows ME. The app creates and saves four pretty large Excel spreadsheets; two around 10Mb, one 18Mb, the other 28Mb. In Windows Explorer, if you left-click on the largest file, this error message is displayed: "Explorer has caused an error in OLE32.dll. Explorer will now close." If I try and delete the file in MS-DOS, it says someone else has the file (which they don't - the PC is stand-alone and no other Excel sessions are running!) If I now try to open the file in Excel, there is again a sharing violation, and I can only get the file read-only. Is the problem that the file is too big? these errors do not occur with the smaller files. Or could there be a corruption in OLE32.dll? Also, any suggestions for how to delete these files? Any advice greatly appreciated!

In order to delete the files from DOS you will need to boot the PC with a boot disk not just open a command prompt. Or you can simply boot the PC to safe mode. Or even just try rebooting and deleting the file.
When you click on it and explorer crashes the PC may still see the file as being in use for some reason.
