Problem booting-up a pc that has winME. When the problem occurred I switched on the pc it made the usual boot up noises and then a ‘blue error screen’ appeared and kept flashing up, so I ctrl+alt+del, pc restarted however it didn’t boot-up at all now it doesn’t even acknowledge that’s there’s a floppy drive!
So I thought it was a hard-drive failure. Obtained an hdd-usb-caddy put the internal harddrive in and connected it to another pc. Managed to access the hdd, however the AntiVirus detected 3 trojan’s

The files that had the above attached have been quarantined and removed from the harddrive, however the pc still won’t boot-up after reconnecting it to the pc.
I’m guessing the registry files have been amended or corrupted, any ideas on how I can get the pc working again?

disconnect the HD and see if you can boot to the bios screen and move around the bios.
See if it will run like that for 30 mins.larry

... well I'd use a boot-up floppy:
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/221512
... boot-up with it type: C: [press ENTER]
... type: cd\windows\command [ENTER]
... type: scanreg /restore [ENTER]
... select date using arrow keys [ENTER]
... make sure the date seclected is when the pc was working fine.
... then rescan with antivirus.
... NOT using antivirus on the NET is a risk
if you do'nt know what you're doing, downloading or clicking.... the above method reverts your registy back to date.
... you may have to reinstall progs installed after that date.
... keep us posted

Grrrr
wat do I know?
... got brain freeze

... this will create a "ME" boot floppy
http://vcic.com/vault/bootme.exe
... once downloaded insert floppy and click
the file bootme.exe... it will then write to the floppy.
... DO NOT PUT ON THE FLOPPY as it writes to it.

Any clean boot (virus/nasty-free) floppy also ought to be "locked" to read-only state too. This to avoid any possible infection from wherever it is used...
