I got directed here a couple of weeks ago and the info on this forum sorted my virus problem! So first 'Thanks' to all who post and help.

Now im not very knowledgeble about computers so if you need any more info please feel free to ask and i will do my best.

Im running windowsME with Avast home user virus protection and Norton Personal Firewall.

Problem!
My computer has started typing things on its own. I only spotted this tonight as normally when its on im using it.
I turned the comp on but did not log into my section on the computer. When i went to log in after leaving it on for about 20mins a password had been entered for my user name. I couldnt remember typing it but tried anyway, came up Invalid Password. mmmm...

Thought it was strange so open up Excel clicked in a box and left it. Checked back and found a 'M'3'and 'A'.
M is the only letter num i use regularly as most of my usernames have M in them as im Mike (hi).

Any ideas??

Question!!
Now i know ive got a fair bit of junk on my computer but i pressed ctr, alt, del to see what programs are running and there are loads. I did this just after startup when logged in with nothing opened etc and was shocked and scared!!

Heres the list
1-Explorer....(windows?)
2-Angel....(utopia angel)
3-Atdialler1#?#?#?
4-MsnMsgr...(msn)
5-Ccapp
6-Ypager...(yahoo?)
7-Loadqm
8-Xelvqt------2 running which wont turn off
9-Uabnhgzvz
10-Tesfsiv
11-V4bk
12-Wkcalrem
13-Xelvqt------2 running which wont turn off
14-Qz
15-Y13u
16-P2tgvyta
17-Uyhdkmec8
18-D1xtk
19-S2irg6k
20-Vvsn
21-Hidserv
22-Cdmanhyp
23-Rncn
24-Systray
25-Lxamsp32....(printer
25-Ashwebsv....(avast)

Do you know if any of those are viruses? Ive put next to the one i know what there for ive no idea about the others. And whats the Xelqvt one? ive tried to end task but itn doesnt work any ideas?
And all those are running from start up NOT opening anything up!!

If you can help thank you very much!! and if youve read it all but cant help thanks very much again, its the thought that counts!

cheers Mike

Check'em and see:

Startup Applications List

Task List Programs

Some are necessary, some questionable or else your choice - the 'alphabet soup' names won't show up on any list and are likely randomly named virus or other malware - try an online scan at Panda maybe

Messenger and its associated 'loadqm' are well worth shutting off

I would recommend you start by downloading Stinger first. Then reboot into Safe Mode and run it.

You have some virus there that can block and kill most anti-virus programs while running in normal mode.

If i were you i would go into Start menu, run typr msconfig hit enter.Click on start up tab and untick all boxes.Restart pc then download and update ad-aware and run it.Then you can do free online virus scan here http://housecall.trendmicro.com/housecall/start_corp.asp
Gettin stinger as mentioned by JackG also really good idea.Reboot and see how ya get on.Best of luck.

I'm glad that Panda was able to rid you of any virus - you do realize that the Panda scan only notifies you of spyware, but does not remove it?

At the top of the forum page is a link for various security apps -- Ad-aware & Spybot are recommended tools that will deal with many spyware problems.

Not too sure what you're on about regarding the IP address though

Ah a bit less worried by seeing your last reply.

As an update ive installed stinger now as well (that found one virus but didnt say what it had done with it)

And ive installed no adware which only found one adware from kazaa (deleting that in a mo as i only used kazaa a couple of times).

About the IP address its better explained in the new post i made after id replied here.
Basically when i hit submit on this page it takes me through to a confirmation page and there instead of seeing a normal IP address like i did the first time im now seeing a cashed webpage thing.
I am just a bit worried (pooed my pants and disconected when i saw it lol) as my computer is now typing things on its own!?
It is also opening up files like windowsmediaplayer and the file search.

It types about a letter a minute mainly M,E,3,N and A. Now its either got another virus or my comps developing a mind of its own.
#ive just added the N to that list as it typed that whilst writing this (im not kidding either#

Thanks for all the help so far you guys im off to update my micro$oft file now

# this is my IP Address on the confirm page
webcacheb15a.cache.pol.co.uk
it was 14 not 15 last time

That's very likely nothing to worry about, and is probably just how your ISP works.

Plenty of copycats jumping on the anti-spyware train. 'No adware' was at one time a pretty dubious outfit - at any rate, you shouldn't confuse the names, a lot of them deliberately use names very similar to the (superior) Ad-aware & Spybot.

Some pretty odd stuff you're reporting - likely a firewall wouldn't be a bad idea, but for sure you need to investigate

UPDATE on the nightmare lol

Well im now using laptop (borrowed) as my comp wont connect to the internet.

I updated 24 critical updates (atleast i know how to find updates now) and installed all but one something to do with the modem (it looked like its want asking me to change modem so i (yes you guessed it lol) said no. Any way my comp wont detect my modem now. Ive used the help thing and its something to do with the com port and bios but cant sort it until i connect it to the tinternet - that makes sense lol.

# i may be wrong about that update as during the same day before downloading updates a program popped up and almost disapeared straight away trying to connect to something so disconnected straight away.
The same thing happen once more and i did the same thing again so i think there is still one virus on that computer even though ive run avast home edtion twice in safe mode with no luck

As for the random typing i think ive sust what was causing it. The new wireless mouse! I dont know how or why but when i plugged it into this comp random letter started appearing on this aswell.

Thanks for the help again but hopefully i will have it all sorted soon as i may have found a simple solution a hammer and a new comp lol. Nah seriously im thinking about getting a newer comp but i still need to get some stuff off the old one so the hammer is not an option (gutted would have been fun for all the trouble recently).

BTW i have norton firewall running all the time. Any virus on my comp i have accepted.
