I purchased a new Compaq Presario 1200 Notebook with a Pentium III 650 chip and 64 Meg of RAM utilizing Windows ME. I have been trying to install my Epson ActionPrinter 5500 ESC/P 2 (which works just fine on my old desktop computer with Windows 95) on my Presario.
First I tried using "Add Printer Wizard". The print test produced garbage. I then contacted Epson and they told me this printer uses EPP Mode and that ME has the driver for it. I again tried to install the printer after going into the BIOS and setting the Parallel Port to "Enable" and Mode to "EPP", which automatically gave me an Interrupt Setting of "IRQ7". Same result. I then called Compaq. Compaq said that Windows ME does not support the EPP Mode.
I find this hard to believe. Why would Microsoft list this printer (and also all of the LQxxxx printers) in it Wizard if one canot really use them. My question is "how do I get this printer to work on my Presario laptop?".

I don't have an answer for that but maybe it will work on other computers. The fact is a lot of older printers and scanners do not work with ME. It is the price of progress and you will probably need to replace the printer.

Bob.. welcome to microsoft windows ME
plug and pray...
try to look at epson web page for winodws ME drivers
