When I plug in my Lexmark Z42 printer the power comes on for about 5 seconds and then it powers off. Any ideas?
This started coincident with a windows ME re-install. Other than that I can't figure out why an OS reinstall would have anything to do with printer power. I've had the printer about a year and a half with no other problems.

Unplug the USB (or printer cable from the Z42) and the power cable. Then plug the power cable back in alone. Both leds by the buttons should come on for a few seconds, then go off and then the Power led shoud come on by itself and stay on.
If this does not happen, then the printers power on self tests detected an error. That would be a hardware problem with the printer. Go to the www.Lexmark.com web site and see if you can find any help on your Z42 model 4104-001 printer.
You could try removing the ink cartridges and try again.
I guess i'm an idiot. There are 2 buttons. The one on the Left is the power button. The one of the right is the on-line button. I kept mashing the one on the right to turn the printer on.
