I refill my cartriges when they empty and I have a lexmark z22. Its not that I am cheap, just I have no other option due to finances. So far, it works great when I do this and I use the cleaning solution they supplied me with to clean the heads. BUt, I am almost out of solution, anyone know what I can use or make to clean my cartridge.

Solvents like Acetone (Dimethyl Ketone), Butanone (Methyl Ethyl Ketone) and Ether would easily clean off the ink but they will also melt just about any plastic they come into contact with. I would try to find the details of the cleaner supplied in the cartridge. There may be a code on the cartridge which would relate to the contents.... possible used by the poisons unit if any of it were swallowed. You may find it is Methyl Alcohol (Methanol, note the spelling!) but don't chance it.

Warm water should also work if allowed to soak for awhile. Soak a paper towel in a container with a little extra warm water, pore excess off and set the print head on it for awhile. Usually can unstop clogged heads, and draw off ink. Then refill ink. The Lexmark printers use a water based ink.

I use Isopropyl Alcohol, get it from a chemist shop and ask for the technical stuff, not the back rub,
