powerpoint tmp files

I'm running Windows ME on a new Sony digital studio. Each time I shut down/restart two tmp files appear in my windows directory. These accumulate over time and cause some system problems (e.g., invalid page fault error when searching local drives). Whether or not powerpoint was running prior to shut down has no bearing. Once the files are deleted, the system appears to work just fine.

Just out of curiosity.... How are you shutting down your comp? Does the Scandisk run when you start up? What leads you to believe that it has anything to do with Powerpoint?

The file icons are ppt and when I look at the file properties, they show as powerpoint files. Double clicking on one launches powerpoint. I'm shutting down normally and so scandisk does not run on start up. Thanks for your help.

Here's an idea fer ya.
How often is your autorecover running. You might try either increasing the time or shutting it down all together. Go to TOOLS|OPTIONS|[SAVE TAB] to see how often Powerpoint is backing up. Mine backs up every 10 minutes. Let me know how it goes.

The autorecover setting was 10 minutes. Lengthening the time makes no difference. Turning off the auto-recover did not change the behavior either. I've also sent a query to the folks at Sony, but no reply as yet!
