I did a little research and found this site, if anyone wants to let me know their opinion please post. See this web site it is inregards to upgrading a Pentium 166 mhz that is not upgradeable to 400mhz Which the Pentium 166 is what I have. scrol all the way down the page to read about the PRO mmx233 and PLProMMx-400, I just want to know what you think and if anybody has done this from this forum. Make sure you put the Capital P in Products or you will get a different web page.

I did a similar thing many years ago to a 286 machine. It will work most probably but it is not worth the effort. First, you are upgrading to K6-2 which is very slow by today's standards. Second, you are still using your old memory which is very slow by today's standards and last, your old machine has a video card with probably 2 or 4 meg, not AGP and not up to today's 64 meg 3d accelerators.

In short, your CPU will run a little faster but the rest of the machine will still be moving super slow. You are best to save your money and upgrade the entire machine. This type of upgrade is too little too late.

Thanks Eric, I was hoping some one had done this so that I could get some feedback, I did upgrade my video card already but only to a 8 or 16 can't remember but still if it would only go a little faster then it probably would not be worth it, maybe somebody else has upgraded and I can get some more feedback. Thanks Sue

i agree, at the price they're asking (and thats without the new cpu, which you have to buy yourself.) you may as well spend a bit extra and completly upgrade the whole system.
i run a k6-2/500 eric, and beleive me it aint
slow. sure it's not a p111 or athlon, but from what i've been reading on this forum it seems to be a damn sight more reliable and give less trouble. besides, for what i use it for it does the job quite nicely.

Guru, I think the 99.00 is for the part that makes my computer run at 400 MHZ or 233 MHZ, I don't think I have to buy anything else, if its like you say then I probably wouldn't but I am going to read it again. If you read it again and are wrong let me know. Sue

sue, you are right. my eyes wre in gear but my brain was declutched. if you can't afford
and upgrade and are happy with your pc but just want more speed then i'd say go for it.
good luck.
