Hi all.
I can not get any information from Power Quest to some questions so I am turning to members of this forum who have used the program and may be able to assist.I think I may have asked similar questions before but I think these are more to the point :)
(1)When an image is made of, say C:\, is the image made ONLY of the DATA on that drive or and image of the entire drive including unused sectors?
(2) Assuming that ONLY the data is imaged, can that image still be stored on C:\ drive, ie. the drive that was just copied (imaged)
(3) If infact the imaged drive CAN be stored on C:\ drive for future use, how can that image be accessed if and when Windows goes pear shaped and wont load?
Regards

The Image is of drive C (The Operating System - data everything, and you can store it to a CD or put it on A partitioned Drive like D, I have a 20 GB, I have Drive C with everything on it (17) gb and Drive D (3) gb, that I partitioned for my Image of drive C, I do that all the time and about once a month If I have anything major like new software and programs I copy it to a CDR or CD-RW, it is a great program and easy to use, you are better off reading the manual and if you have any errors check with PQ, but most of the answers are in the manual.
If anything goes wrong with Drive C, you can fix it with the image on Drive D, if the Whole Drive goes bad, you can restore with the CD that you have made.(If you choose to)

DI should have Imaged the drive, not just copied data, so EVERYTHING can be restored to that iamges paoint and time. It is a great utility and once you get the hang of it is easy to use. I have soem scary moments a first with it, especially when I made my D: partition but it is a joy now

Hi guys.
Sue, it sounds like the image you made of C:\ drive only images the operating system and the data and NOT ALL the blank sectors as with some other programs, am I correct? You mentioned you stored your OS and data to CD's also, how many CD's do you use and how much data are you actually saving to disk? (ie.Megabytes etc.)
Regards

No it takes a complete Image and I Imaged it to D, My whole drive that includes every thing on my C Partition, fits on 3 Disks, I compress it, great program

I guess to make it more clearer, If My C drive was wiped out or becomes unstable ( which is my O/S, Data, Drivers everything)I could take My Image from D and restore it to C, using PQ Recovery Floppys that you make, and it would be like it was to begin with....It does not matter how big it is there may be a limitation, but mine right now is 17 GB, so if there is a limit, just make sure you partition it to that limit. It does everything and more than GHOST, like I said I could not get Ghost to directly Image to my CDR-RW, PQ does, PQ also will copy the C drive and if you don't have a partitioned drive to put it on, it will partition one for you, this is Partition Magic 2002, if you want a program that does more that this you can check with powerquest, I know they have other programs too, but you only need Drive Image..I also have PQ's Partition Magic it is also a great program, was able to partition and put a dual boot to w98 on that partition, but have since deleted it because I just don't like w98. Their programs are so easy, just read first and download their manuals if you don't have them.

Has anyone used this in a win2K classroom environment? Here is my problem; I have created an image with all of the software pre-installed and saved it to a network drive, with intensions to distribute it to the rest of the machines in the classroom. I have created a network boot disk to gain access to the image. When I restore it to another machine in the class and change the computer name the pre-installed software is taken out of the menu and off of the desktop. Does anyone know a way aroung this?
Thanks

Just bought DI2002 online, installed it and ran the program. It hung up 2 minutes into creating the partition, with error message 1513: bad attribute position in file record. Followed cryptic instructions in online support and knowledge base to no avail. Disabled virus protection, firewall, ran chkdsk, pulled out my hair. Nothing works. Called tech support. Their closed on weekends. Great timing. Great program.

Jim,
If you are still having problems will you let me know the specs of your machine and the partition(s) you have created. I have a few ideas but need to know more about how you are creating the image.
