I'm having a strange problem with my internet explorer that I can't seem to fix. Everything works fine until I try to click on a link that opens a new window (like a chat room). A window opens, but it is blank, and the page never pulls up. I don't have any popup blockers installed. The same window will pull up if i use Mozilla Firefox. I've scanned with both Spybot and Ad-Aware, and neither is finding any kind of suspicious files or registry entries. However, under add/remove programs in control panel, there's a suspicious program called "search toolbar" that has appeared in the past few days. No toolbars are showing up in either IE or Firefox. Clicking "remove" does nothing to get rid of this. It may be completely unrelated, but both occurred around the same time. Any ideas? I tried updating IE, but when I try to download the update, the download never begins. Thanks!!

1. Click [Start] [Run] type:
(Press Enter after each command)
Regsvr32 /i URLMON.DLL
Regsvr32 actxprxy.dll
Regsvr32 shdocvw.dll2. Restart Windows
3. Open IE [Tools] [nternet Options] [Programs] [Reset Web Settings]

Thanks for your help. The second option (http://windowsxp.mvps.org/IEFIX.htm) didn't make a difference. As for the first, the first and third commands went through successfully. But, the second command failed (actprxy.dll). I received the following error message:
LoadLibrary("actprxy.dll") failed.
GetLastError returns 0x00000485Any ideas?

lol ok sorry. i did mistype that one. it went through successfully, but after a restart and resetting my internet options, it still didn't fix it. any idea why this isn't working?

Hello everyone,
Tygrr80,
What version of oleaut32.dll is on your computer?
It is located in C:\Windows\System folder.
Right click on the file and select Properties.
Select the Version tab at the top.
What does that show?
Best Regards,
Mesich

Hello everyone,
Tygrr80,
That version is for WinXP and will cause the problems you are having.
Download and run MCREPAIR
.Select Yes when prompted to overwrite your current version of oleaut32.dll.
Best Regards,
Mesich

Hello everyone,
Tygrr80,
Your very welcome.
Your original version was replaced with the WinXp version when installing a new program. What new programs have you recently installed?
Best Regards,
Mesich
