a pop up appeared yesterday
'privacy Alert' It gave three
choices so I clicked on'carry on with what you are doing' it has come on again today with only one choice 'GetPrivacy protection now' I haven't done that yet but the pop up won't move and is covering this as I type. How can I shift it and is it a virus. I have Ad-aware installed and have just run that and it hasn't detected any new components

I turned off my pc to get rid of the pop up and then re booted. Is that type of pop up called a trojan?

If you get another pop up like that online, do NOT click it anywhere. Use cntl-alt-del to end it.

For ANY popup, NEVER click on ANY of the choices. To get rid of it click the X at the top right corner.

Better yet PREVENT popups. The best way I have found is to use the FREE Google toolbar which has a popup blocker feature.

maxie1, since Spybot solved your problem, doesn't matter, but FYI most popups that I have encountered show a hilited square in the toolbar at the bottom (where Start is). If you RIGHT click that square, one of the options that comes up is CLOSE. WORKS even if the X is missing!! HTH.

well, I was offline all weekend as a virus had attacked my server. Anyhow they got me up and running today. Because my pc went wobbly soon after installing spybot I uninstalled it but I have now installed Zonealarm on the recommend of the cable co who's the server. In addition I have Ad-aware, so I'm not being rude I hope Iminuse, it's just that I should have enough spyware + a firewall. That's a good tip Ed in Texas
cheers

As jumbie said the free Google toolbar has a built in pop up blocker. When I installed this toolbar ,my main reason was because I use google for most searches I do .The added bonus of the pop up blocker was a pleasant surprise, and it works great. I've been on the net for about an hour today and its already blocked 27 pop up's !
Take Care,Nick

Ed of Texas or anyone for that matter. When you say the pop up was probably spyware, does that mean that someone would be looking around my PC at that time? Also what info would they want, I only use the PC for simple pleasures and chatlines
