Here is what I USE It is free also, read up on it, it has a neat right click option that you can enable an aggressive pop up control mode that will not even let you open your e-mail program when enabled. Works great!

Popup Killer is free and I've found it to be very good. It takes time to sort out the sites that you want to access etc but it's well worth it. Try Cnet.com

I like Pop Up Killer much better than Pop up Stopper I tried 2 or 3 and they seemed to use too much resources, Pop Up Killer works well with Win Me and IE 6.and it is easy.

Col, FWIW, I tried both killer and stopper. Didn't really like either. Got 'Cookie Wall'and still use it. Since it is free, why not give it a try? HTH.

Pop-up Killer is no longer available. Developer said too many reported bugs, and not enuff support/feedback to remedy
the situation.I had to reformat yesterday, and tried to get it from a couple places,to no avail.Got Pop-up stopper, but haven't even used it yet.

I just use Opera as a browser, lets you easily choose if you want popup or not, you can also set the pop-up windows to open in the background.

Take a look at CookieCop from Cnet. It does what you want and a WHOLE LOT more; and it is free; and they give you the source code.
