I'm having problems with the sound quality of my cd's and music files through windows media player. The vocals of tracks are virtually inaudible and the bass crackles like nobody's business. I've tested the soundcard and the speakers and they're fine - what am I doing wrong. I run ME and have an amd athlon 1200 and soundblaster live 1024

First make sure you have the latest VIA 4-in-1 drivers, sound card drivers, and video drivers. Next, check for IRQ conflicts. Is anything sharing an IRQ with your sound card? You may have to switch slots to get a different IRQ with the sound card. Also, nothing should share an IRQ with your video card. How much memory do you have? Have you updated Windows Media Player to the latest via windows update?
also test playing your CD with a different CD player, (maximusCD is good)... wmp7 on my computer was not able to play musical CDs until i upgraded the memory to 192 meg and tweeked out all the fat... it still can play the multimedia enhanced CDs... wmp7 is junk Regards Miro
