My media player has suddenly stopped working. It is a great loss as i use it all the time. I ahve tried to reinstall it but this does not work. I have downloaded a whole new copy and this does not work. It seems to install on top of it but still no joy. The problem is that Windows MP stalls on opening and then hangs my system causing me to reboot ( V annoying). I have even tried to uninstall it and then reload the new copy. But nothing works can someone please help i am going insane.

Well it seems you have tried everything that I would have done. So this is what I would do next.........If I was you.
I would try reinstalling windows on top of itself. This should fix the problem without losing most of your important programs and saved Items. But then you have to go get your updates again. But At least you won't be going insane...anymore.Good Luck

I had a similar problem. But my answer was to just quit using the new Windows MP. Too many bugs for me. Playlists sometimes loaded, sometimes didn't. They became corrupted to easily. I right clicked on an mpeg, instead of clicking on the media player, I chose "open with." That way I could permanently assign the original media player, and the problem was solved.
If you have recently installed a new veiwer like RealPlayer or otherwise, it may have taken over your other files and be causing a conflict. Check the properties of all the veiwers and see what they are tied to. Your not always told this happens.
