Can you describe a little better "screwy lookin"?
Go to display properties by right clicking anywhere on the desktop that is clean and choosing properites. Go to the settings tab.
How may colors are you using and what is the screen area?

uninstall your video driver. delete it from your device manager. then re-install it.

Sounds to me like the game changes the screen resolution and fails to return it. Do the icons change size or color? Like newgrl says check the settings.
ithinkthere4iam, I think you may enjoy this, Rene Descart (sp?) was sitting in a restaurant drinking coffee. A waitress asked him if he wanted more. He said, "I think not." and he disappeared :-)
