Hi guys,
i just reformated my computer and started over from scratch and i have a problem. The Software that it installed to burn/format cds (Adaptec Direct CD, and Adaptec Easy CD Creator) wont recognize my cd!! The "Direct CD" (used to format a CD-RW) says there is "no supported cd-r or cd-rw drive." And Everytime i try to make a cd in Easy CD Creator, it keeps saying "insert a disc in drive D:" or somethin like that.
It will read from CD's and i can burn a music cd from Roxio in Real Player, but the other programs wont let me make any kind of cds. I need that option because i back up homeschool files on CD's and i really really need to get this working again!
I do have a different CD Burner than the one that came on my Computer but why wont it recognize it? I also installed Nero 5 to see if it would work but it doesnt work either! Can someone PLEASE tell me how i can get this thing to write to a cd!!! Like i said, It wouldnt be such an urgent thing but i back-up my homeschool files on cds and it has to be done weekly! PLEASE help!!

Hi Michael.
Here is the troubleshooting page at Roxio.

Take care,Linda

A lot of newer versions of CD-RW software which came with the CD-RW, have been tied to that specific Burner. I know for a fact that the Nero 5 software which comes with a new burner is tied to that specific model and will not work with any other burner!

Do you have the correct drivers for your CD drive? As JPW said:
"Nero 5 software which comes with a new burner is tied to that specific model and will not work with any other burner"
You might want to try the manufacturer's website to try to find drivers for your CD drive or if you can't do that, try to get a generic driver such as OAKCDROM.SYS
