Like the subject says, I can only save images now in bmp form (And please don't tell me to empty my temp internet folder) There'd be no problem if it was that easy. -As it stands now, I can only save one jpeg at a time, when the temp internet folder is completly empty. I've moved the folder around and back, but still get it. -And I don't know how to see if my downloaded program files are damaged or not. I don't know what a 'status' bar is. I just see the plain files in the dpf window. so please, can anyone HELP ME SAVE MY PICTURES PROPERLLY again? -And for god's sake, don't say empty your temporary internet folder. thanks.
kegean, 3. In the Downloaded Program Files folder on your hard disk, remove the files that are listed as either Unknown or Damaged. To do so: a. On the Tools menu, click Internet Options. b. Click the General tab. c. Under Temporary Internet files, click Settings. d. Click View Objects.
The list of program files that are downloaded to the SystemRoot\Downloaded Program Files folder on your hard disk appears in the Downloaded Program Files window. e. In the Status column, note the files that are listed as either Unknown or Damaged. Remove these files. To do so, right-click the file, and then click Remove. f. When you are prompted to confirm the removal, click Yes. g. Close the Downloaded Program Files window, and then click OK two times
If you look at "e." above it shows you where to look to see if any are Unknown or Damaged and how to deal with them.
I believe in the system information utility under the heading on Internet Explorer/cache/list of objects ,if you click on that it will list the items in that folder and look at the status if is says installed ,then its fine ,however I have had it report items as damaged ! Good Luck ,Nick
We've heard that a million monkeys at a million keyboards could produce the complete works of Shakespeare; now, thanks to the Internet, we know that is not true
thanks everyone, but I dont think I can see any damaged files in my downloaded program folder. Hell, maybe i'll just reinstall IE altogether. (sorry nick. I cant use that process. I've got a missing help .dll i've been meaning to reinstall)-but that's unrelated. I dont think theres anything bad in there, because this is a recent thing, and not much has changed. I find it strange that I can save one Jpeg at a time, but only if the temp int. folder is totially empty....
kegean, When you delete your Temporary Internet Files under the General tab of Internet Options when the pop-up windows appears make sure that you checkmark the "delete all offline content" box.
hey i have tried these all of these steps including checking the offline box thingy and deleting the unknown or damged items and still no luck, can still only save as bitmap.....sigh........any other suggestions?
No two problems are ever alike, so you are better raising a new post of your own. That way we get your system details (we can't really be sure that you are using Windows ME from this post).
Few people will look back at this old post now and a new one should get fast responses.
hey, just thought i would post back saying that i somehow managed to resolve the problem, lol; so i wont bother posting it as a new post but i'll post what i did here.
1. open internet explorer 2. select 'tools' option 3. internet options 4. temporary internet files 5. settings 6. adjust the dial titled 'Amount of disk space in use' (ie move it to the right to allow more space to be allocated)
i dont know if this will help anybody but it worked for moi. Thanks everyone else for their suggestions.
Not 100% sure what the symptoms of your particular problem were but thanks for taking the trouble to let us know the outcome.
I do feel that often folk limit the cache too much (many suggest setting it down to 10M). I don't actually agree these days. Something like 100M to 150M, as MS now suggest, sounds reasonable. If you make it much larger it takes the system longer to look through the cache than to look at the online page.
Still worth clearing temporary internet files every now and then (more important with a larger cache).
