What format are you using?.jpeg?.bmp?...has a lot to do with the file size.

You can change that with
Ms Paint,IrfanView, and I'm sure a slew of others.

Hi Tonnyx.

What version of Photoshop do you have?

I believe as of version 5.5 there is a Save for Web under the File menu.

This saves the photo for Web use or emailing.

Take care,

Linda

You can crop (take a smaller section of) the picture.
You can go to (along the top of the program)IMAGE - IMAGE SIZE and select a smaller size.

When you save a file (FILE - SAVE AS), save with a slightly different name to the original picture. It's better to keep the original picture and not replace it.

If it's a .jpg file, I think you also get the option to save the quality. If it's not a .jpg, you can select FILE - SAVE AS - and use the drop down list to select .JPG

There is also the option to SAVE FOR WEB.

I send a lot of photoshop documents through e-mail and here's how I do it...

I build my documents at a relatively high dpi (around 600). Save it when I'm done. Open it and change the dpi to 100 (for example). Next, I rename and save the new file to send over the web. It keeps the resolution without the larger file size...

This also works good with scanners... Scan at a high dpi and immediately drop down the dpi after scanning...

In Photoshop 7.0, there are 2 options for reducing file size. Go to the Image Menu, then Image size, and it's obvious what to do from then on - just type in a reduced number in the first box. Make sure "constrain proportions" is checked down below so that the picture reduces in size proportionally. If you type in about 400 pixels in the first box you will get a fairly small file.

Then, if yu want to send it to someone as a small jpg or want to put it on the web, use the Save for Web command and mess around with the high, medium low settings box to see how you like the quality.
