I just put my burner into my new PC running WinMe with 256 megs of ram and a 1gig AMD processor. The burner ran fine in my old pc running win98, but now I get a CD error - power calibration area error. I've tried multiple CD's with no success. Any help would be appreciated.

I have a sony cdrw and after installing windowsME I started having problems. It would not copy audio. I contacted the sony cdrw support team and it was suggested I download there update for windowsME. Maybe check with your support group for your cdrw and see if they have an update for winME.

Steve:
CD error - power calibration area error
Reasons for receiving this message:The optimum power calibration area is a special area near the center of the recordable CD. Before writing a track on a CD, the CD-Recorder must adjust the amount of power applied to the writing laser for the optimum level for the mounted CD. The optimum calibration area is reserved for this purpose. If this area becomes full, the CD-Recorder can't write to the CD.
The power calibration failed, possibly because a defective CD was mounted or an internal hardware malfunction occurred in the CD-Recorder.
What to do:
Insert a blank CD and repeat the CD creation process. If the error persists, contact the CD-Recorder manufacturer for more information.
Try a different brand of CD-R media.
propely.Good Luck!

Steve, i assume when it was working in your older 98 computer that the mechanics and optics of your CD writer is fine.
Most probably it is windows ME - hardware compatibility issue... contact Phillips for windows ME patch (if there is one)

I am running Easy CD creator 4, and found out this version is not compatible with WinMe. They told me I would have to upgrade to Adaptec Easy CD Creator 5. Since I will have to buy some new software should I go with adaptec or is there something better to consider.

Hi Steve:
I don't know who told you Adaptec v4 is incompatible with Me . . . I'm running it on two WinMe PC's and they both work flawlessy. I didn't have to do any tweaks or anything . . . they just work.
Good Luck to you!

Hey Steve and Timerider...I've had major problems with Athlon systems and Adaptec software when using Asus boards with the Promise Ultra100 controllers onboard (A7V boards). Switched to Nero which fixed everything.

i just install phillips cdrw 800 series on my intel celeron 433. the setup detected the drive and everything seems fine but when i got to my desktop none of burner softwares will reponse to it, it doesn't detect it. please help me someone. i'm a dumb ass
