phantom pgs blocking scandisk

Hi Everyone, I usually scandisk and defrag every two weeks. I went to scan the system and I get a notice saying 10 other programs are also running. When I do this, I clean the register of all programs excluding the systray and explorer. I can't figure out what is giving the os the false impression that other programs are running with the scan routine. I would appreciate your input and thank you in advance for your help, frank

hello run scan disk and defrag from safe mode. you may have spyware running on your computer d/l spybot search and destroy,update it,run it.

Mostly it is windows programs running and writing to the disk drive. Things like Taskmonitor, PCHealth, Windows and IE Automatic Update (every five minutes), System Restore, Scheduled Tasks {PCHealth, etc.). And then there are programs you have installed like Firewalls, they log to the disk on every hit on the firewall.
Plus and ADware/Spyware/Trojan etc. that have slipped onto your system.
Just because its not listed on the Task Bar or in Task Manager, does not mean it not running in hidden mode.
