Can anyone help with this problem I'm having. In Device Manager my "PCI Input Controller" is listed under "Other Devices" and holds that huge Yellow Question mark at the side. In the properties it says no driver is installed and to re-install driver yet I have never had to do this before and I cannot plug in any PCI devices and I miss having sound this is a problem I have had for at least a year now. I have scanned my Windows ME cd and it did not find anything. When I try to install the drivers for my sound card(SBLive) it cannot detect the device. I have tried other sound cards that I have but nothing is found. Anyone have any ideas or ever have this problem? Please reply any info you can thanks

Try removing the soundcard (it also has a joystick port which is probably the 'input controller'). Then restart in safe mode, go to device manager and remove any references to soundcard or joystick ports. Shut down, replace soundcard and re-boot - your card should be re-detected and you just need to provide the driver disk.

The PCI controller is part of the system board chip set and requires device drivers much like all of the other hardware. Windows ME comes with a set of default drivers for most of the older system board chip sets. But if a newer system board (built after early 2000), then Windows ME may not have default drivers for it. In that case, there should have been a driver CD that comes with the system board or system.

If you have a CD that came with the system board, see if it has system board drivers on it. If not, then in Device Manager, select the PCI Input Controller with the yellow Question mark on it and click Remove button. Then reboot. This will force Windows ME to again look for a driver for this controller and install it. May require several reboots to get it sorted out if it finds one (there should be one there if it ever worked and you did not delete its program files).

In any case, you should find out exactly what chip set controller is used on your system board (VIA, SIS, INTEL, AMD, etc.). You can run System Tools - System Information and it should give you a clue. Once you know, you can go to that vendors web site and download the current version of the chips set drivers, and install them.

See: page for links to these sites.
