had to format hard drive, now computer can't find driver for pci ethernet controller. how and where do i find it, why can't windows find it on it's own?

Must be one of those it does not know about. If it finds the card but not the driver, then go to he Drivers link on the left frame and it will take you to sites where you can get them. You will need to know the info on the driver. Then name of the vendor and the card ID. Windows Device Manager should tell you that.
