PC screen goes blank but power's on

I have just started to have a problem with one my my pc's I go to turn it on and it starts up gets to the screen where windows ME logo is or even wont get that far and then the it just stops the screen goes blank (black), as if its died but the power is still on as the desktop power light is still on
I don't know what to do, has the cpu gone and need replacing

PILGRIMPETE253, several thoughts come to mind. First, rule out monitor thru substitution. If that seems to be O.K., next thing I'd suspect is something mechanical like a fan. Next thought goes to card. Could be that something on your video card is fine untill it warms up. Another card from another machine should tell the tale (since you refer to multiple monitors, assume you have multiple machines). That should help narrow it down so you fix the right thing. HTH. thanks for helping, i'll give that a try if its not the video card, what could it be the next thing to test i'll swap over another video card to see if it is that,
