Dont have a virus(according to updated mcafee)Dont have spyware(according to adaware)nothing showing up in cwshredder yet in control panel and remove programs/components its just a blank.all my components are gone.I noticed this the other day and nothing has been installed reciently.Nothing appered to be wrong with pc so i just left it.Now few days later when i try update windows the download box opens n does nothing also if i right click on file and go open in new window a new window opens but just hangs.only way to unfreeze it is 2 press stop and then refresh.I have registered loads of .dll files and to no avail. Also installed Windows Script 5.6 as another forum suggested that a .dll file associated with this was corrupt so installed and once again to no avail. Its really getting on my t**s at this stage.Any1 any ideas before i pick this pc up n fling it out the window.(in a flat 6 stories up would hate 2 b the person walkin by when it hits the ground lol)
Tnx folks

is blank window the error? could be activeX, or java, or such, goto system information >tools> and try directx diagnostics, also with iexplorer5/6 repair or reinstall, try sfc.exe if available and verify all, and reinstall any corrupt system files, try regclean.exe if youe have it, also try rebooting in safe mode and try adaware scan of registry and system +system(32) folder, if you have any backup registrys prior to date of error try scanreg to restore...:)

the biggest problem is been able to read what you are trying to say/ask everything just goes on and on in one sentence and paragraph what am i saying no punctuation at all just one complete mess i think we all should use some kind of message service so we all can become just as _______ ugh bofra not any better.... i think ill do it this way from now on its so much easier to type reading who cares i know what i said you figure it out thats their mentality if they cant understand the simple use of a simple sentence how are they going to understand the use of a computer but thats the way it is and they just expect us to decipher the ramblings i better go back and change the way things are spelled as they might be spelled right no i dont care

To make this clear, I don't mean if english isn't your primary language.

I know there are people that use this forum, and the english language isn't their primary. Yet, they have a better grasp of it!!

Well, enough of MY ramblings

AyeCarumba, SWAG, CrazyOne, tsk, tsk! Touchy aren't we. Have to go along with the sentiment though! Clarity is a plus!
Maybe? Be aware that ME and XP both have a feature called 'Restore'. A nasty (virus, spyware, etc) can hide there and since it is a 'Windows' file, Windows won't allow any alteration so long as it is active. The registry gets re-written on the next bootup and the last successful boot is used and since nasties don't count, the boot appears to be sucessful, thus a 'nasty' gets replicated.
The solution is simple (assuming that's the problem), TEMPORARILY disable Restore (in order to 'unprotect'), scan/clean, re-enable restore and try again. May have to reboot.
During the disable process, you will destroy ALL your restore points in XP, thus some folks disagree with that fix, feeling that any restore point (even a corrupted one!) is better than none at all. You can sidestep that pitfall by creating a new restore point as soon as you have a clean machine. FWIW, I have used it on both ME & XP Pro with no lasting ill effects. Could be what's happening to you. Critters can hide in restore.
HTH.

Sry folks if ya had trouble understanding my first post.Looked back over it there any well to me anyway its understandable.
Anyway tnx for your help(and sarcasim) so far.I never use system restore anyway always have it disabled. Its useless as far as im concearned. To unreliable.
So once again my prob is that in control panel/add remove programs/windows setup, the list of components have vanished.Tried all .inf files and doesnt seem to be the problem. Its almost like there hidden. For eg;Calculator should b in components and if not calculator should not be on pc but it is.I did get my internet open in new window working again tho so thats something. :-)
So any1 with any ideas as to the solution to my missing componants would be gr8 help.Hope this clears up what was looking for in first place.

PS:There are no Pests(virus malware etc) on pc.Even got rid of my deleted files that are stored after you delete something.
Right out.
Tnx again folks(all bar crazyone considering there wasnt much to your post lol)

Hello Ed, ;-)

"Clarity is a plus!
Maybe?
"

Maybe!! Well, maybe we look for the wrong fix/help, to a problem. Maybe, it's a virus, trojan, ect., and not a legitimate file {spelling}. Maybe, we try to figure out, what this; "...remove programs/components its just a blank.all my components are gone...", might mean.

Ect. ect. ;-)

Like I said before, need to decipher the writings first. Before we can give any suggestions/opinions/help. And if we don't decipher them correctly, it was just a waste of time. That's everyone's time, not just the helpers.

But, that's just my opinion. I'm sure, I'm not alone. Yes, I can see the blood pressure rising already ;-)

p.s. AyeCarumba, just wondering if any of my ramblings, did, help. Thanks

You spell it sarcasm :)

Nice thread this one...we've been lacking sparks for a while...

Since system restore is "To unreliable (sic)" I presume you keep a backup of your system or clone as would be recommended when you don't use it, so why not just restore from the clone?

Hello Trev,

Here I thought AyeCarumba, was saying it's fixed ;-) Don't care, if there was a thank-you attached, but, still was just wondering ;-)

Sparks hmmm, I think jboy does a good job of making those. Just joshing jboy. No need to explain things to me, that's for sure.

Trev, now that there is "sparks". Does that mean we'll see you around more hahahah ;-)

Heh - it's a gift I suppose.

I try to avoid the muddled, rambling questions - especially when they start getting snippy (usually a waste of time).
