Hi, I just upgraded to an athlon xp 2000 and my pc has been unusable due to constant lockups. When I restart the BIOS shows CPU temp at 60+C. Is this most likely the problem cause I have tried replacing mboard, diff ram, etc. Thanks
Is there a decent fan on the heatsink? Does the CPU feel too hot to touch? You could try a case fan or more efficient CPU fan to see if this helps remove the problem. If necessary get a electric room fan on full cool blast and blow it into the case (with a side panel off) to keep the unit cool if you think that overheating is the problem - at least that will help you decide on whether this is the cause (though not a permanent solution - just to test your theory).
I have only really known CPU overheats to cause complete instant shutdown then immediate rebooting issues, not lockups.
Anyone any other thoughts on this?
