I am keen to use DELINDEX which Renaissance Man has kindly written for the benefit of us all & it looks really goood.
Before doing so I am keen to know if anything can be done to avoid the loss of passwords. Is there any possible work around? (I am sure I will miss some PWs when attempting to record them all and would anyway prefer not to have to enter them manually each time if this can be avoided.)
Also does DELINDEX delete the ISP password or does it only delete those required to access certain web sites?
Thanks.

I wish there was an easy way to protect the passwords (that we want to keep) for sites that require you to sign in . I think there are some shareware programs that can do this.

The ongoing problem with cookies is that you accumulate cookies for sites you’ve only been to once and will never go back to again, as well as cookies that contain counters and trackers. And there’s the privacy issue. Most people think porn as soon as you say privacy, but maybe you don’t want anyone to know about a medical condition you’re trying to get info on, or about your financial info, etc.

In WinME, or at least on my system, deleting the Cookies Index.dat file also renders the Cookies useless. So even if you don’t delete them, what good are they if they can’t be used?

I've been told (on this forum) that Win98 doesn't work that way, and that when the index.dat file is deleted and then rebuilt, it includes the (remaining) Cookies.

If, in Win98, you can delete the index.dat file without losing the functionality of cookies, you may want to modify DELINDEX so it deletes only the index.dat file in the cookies folder.

On May 5th, I’m going to post a file, DELTA.BAT, (on both the Win9x & WinME forums) that will delete index.dat files every time you start or reboot your computer. It’s incredibly simple, but I’ve tested it in many variations to make sure when it is posted it does no harm. I’ve been using the final version for about six weeks now, and am working on the notes that go with it.

Any suggestions or comments can be posted here or sent to me at delindex@yahoo.com.

Many thanks RM (and John also).
OK I will live with this very minor disadvantage.
Look forward to seeing Delta.bat - deleting on start/reboot is exactly what is needed.
