Subject: Password for Microsoft NetworkingOS: MECPU/Ram: AMD-XP2000 |
Comment: I need instructions on how to change the Password for Microsoft Networking I have three computers networked by a Linksys Cable Router with a 4-port switch. During booting a dialog box asks to “Enter Network Password”. I want to change the password (there are none now) but have not been able to find out how this is done. I have checked “Windows Me Bible”, “Windows Me QUE” and “Home Networking for Dummies”, and to my surprise there is no procedure explained for this in any of these books. One of them indicates that this is possible, but I could not find the explanation.

Reply: (edit)The Windows User logon IS the Windows Network logon. There is no "Windows ME" password like there is in XP. Just a Network user logon, that allows different users to have their own profile. Does not block anyone from skipping logging on and using the network. Its password only protects the user's profiles. You can just delete the userID.PWL files in the Windows folder and reboot. Then enter a user name and a password when it reboots. Or create a new userID and password when you boot up.
