I'm trying to split a logical drive D: using Partition Magic 8.0(I don't want to lose my programs/data residing in the logical partition). I currently have a single 40gb hard drive partitioned into a primary C: and the logical D:, and I'm running Windows ME. Whenever I set up the split operation in PM, I get the message: "One or more of the changes you have made require going to DOS mode. If you press OK, the computer will restart in DOS mode, complete the changes, and then restart Windows". Unfortunately, when I press OK, the computer doesn't seem to boot to Dos mode to make the changes(it tries, but all I see is both the floppy and hard drive lights staying lit and a flashing cursor). I waited approx 10 to 12 minutes before I gave up and hit the computer reset button..... then, the computer wouldn't boot until I repaired the partition table using a Norton rescue disk boot. I realize Win ME doesn't have real-mode DOS, however, Partition Magic advertises the program will function in the Windows ME environment. I would use(or at least try to use) PM after booting using a Win ME boot disk, however, the split operation is one of several functions not available within the DOS program. Has anyone else had this same problem using PM 8.0 in Win ME? If so, is there a solution? PM would be a great program if I could ever get it to work properly. Thanks.
