Partition Magic 8.0 question

I've recently attempted to split my logical D: drive to form a logical E: drive in which to house Windows XP for dual-booting(with my current OS Win ME). I used PM 8.0 in order to preserve lots of data/programs currently residing on my D: drive(partition). However, shortly after the split operation began, I received an Error 2207 message:"The split was incomplete". I know I have 16,384 bytes in bad sectors on drive D: as identified and marked by MS Scandisk. Is this causing the split operation not to work or is it more likely something else? Those bad bytes were identified about 2 months ago and I haven't had anything else on the drive go bad since. Is there a way to "unmark" the bad bytes so the split operation might work, or is this totally unsafe? Are disk drive sectors sometimes marked bad when they aren't really bad? I appreciate any assistance anyone can provide.

Those bad sectors usually can be fixed by running scandisk (if not defrag). If scandisk can not fix it, then that part of the hard drive is bad. Try running scandisk on it though. It might fix the problem.
