Hi David

My first guess is that the problem lies with the Internet Service Profider; either you were on at a peak time or they had problems on their side.

Usually if it is the ISP, the problem will be resolved within a day. Don't blame your computer just yet.

Or you could just keep redialing till you get a decent connection speed (double-click tray icon to see connection speed).

Ask for/try different access numbers from your ISP.Way back when I was on dial-up (no choice),I got slightly better results by simply running a CAT5 line directly from the telephone interface to my PC.

*Gotta ask;
Have you scanned for spyware,and the like?

Thanks to all!!! This problem just-started 2-wks ago. Until-then, all was satif'y. Usually 40k/low, to 50k/high. Got NAV, SYGATE, AD-AWARE running @ b/u. Now, 20k is the highest! Have INTEL 536V-92 modem. ALWAYS check for "whatever" in b-ground. [ATHLON XP 2200+]

You may have developed a phone line problem or bad connection. Have you added new phones or equipment to your phone line? Do you now hear noise in the background when using the phone? Try moving the phone wire around so that it does not run near the monitor or speakers or power lines.
