I have been working on someone's ME computer. Will go online without any problem. Outlook Express works fine. But, when go to Internet Explorer, gives message of "page cannot be displayed". Virus software is up to date, but no firewall or spybot or adaware on computer. Was on phone with ISP, could find nothing wrong. Any ideas? Thank you!

Do you get that message on every site you try to load? Do you have any proxy settings configured?

You know, I did not try to go to any other site. Don't know why, but I didn't! And, the ISP guy didn't ask me to do that either! Oh well. The ISP guy did get me to do something with winsock2, and whatever it was, it didn't seem to make any difference. I guess I need to see about going to other pages! Thank you!

I posted on this a week or so ago. Sounds like the very same problem and symptoms. My guess is that you can't get to your home page when you launch IE. From what I've been able to figure out something redirecting the browser right back to my own local machine instead of looking for my ISP. In the registry where the proxy server settings (which should be blank if you are not using a proxy server like me) will be the number of your own machine. I've blown these numbers away and relaunched IE and guess what..page cannot be displayed. And the numbers are back as well. Spybot, adaware and the virus programs are not finding anything in my case. nothing has worked thus far but loaded Firefox and have been using it. I don't know whether to abandon IE and just Firefox or be stubborn and find a fix. I don't like having something in there that I can't get out. Wish us luck!

Hi, I am going to try to get to another page, but I doubt that it will work. The ISP thought that maybe some spyware was making the machine do this. If I can get to Adaware and/or Spybot, I will install them. Other than that, my customer has said that she uses email really, and not much at all on the Internet, so she will just not use it. This is very frustrating for me too! I will let you know what happens here!
