Outlook 2000 won't open

While reading an email, my Outlook 2000 closed out. When I try to reopen it, is says it cannot access because it is already open and to close all programs and try again. Any suggestion on what could have caused this or how to fix. The email was from someone I know and had no attachements. Did full virus scan and it showed nothing. Thanks in advance for any help.

L.B., first thought = 'brain fart'. Windows can't open an file that is already in use (prevents screwups). Try closing the file using shortcut, Start button, etc. and see if you can get there from here. Keeping fingers crossed. Ed in Texas.

Ed in Texas, Thanks for the reply but the program (Outlook)isn't open. I can even reboot the PC and from there if I try to open Outlook, I get the same message. I may have to run a repair or reinstall of Outlook. I was hoping it would be something else that I may be overlooking.
