hi again.
just seeking some opinions on the best way to set up my hard drive. At the moment I have 1 15 gig HD no partitions.I have Norton ghost to work with and limited experience (read none, it came with System Works
).
thanks again

hello
if its a 15 gig hard drive make one partion at 50% useing fdisk. make a ghost copy of your drive to cd or anther hard drive first as fdisk deletes all data.
not sure if you wrote 115 gig drive never saw one of them so ill asume 15.
if you look in the how 2 s on left colum you will fined out how to partion and format.
have a nice day

That link tells you everything you need to know about fdisking and formatting with a windows me startup disk.
If your drive is 15GB do as wawadave suggested and create a primary partition of 50%. Use 100% of the remaining space(50% of the 15GB drive) for the extended partition.
This will allow you to keep the ghost image on the extended partition. You can also keep data on the extended partition. If you do this you wont have to worry about backing it up when you want to reinstall or swap operating systems.
Heres a link to a user friendly ghost manual. Click Me
If you plan on dual booting with another OS you might create a 5GB primary partition then split the extended partition up into 2-5gb logical drives. 50% for the primary. Then 50% for the first logical drive in the remanining space then finally 100% for the last logical drive which would be the remaining 5GB.
That last paragraph is confusing :). You will understand what i mean once you give it a go.
Good Luck

Thanks heaps for the input. i'll give all this a whirl and let u know the outcome.
Haven't come up with a good reason to run two O.S's so I'll pass on the confusing:) bit for now. Still appreciate greatly you taking the time & effort to help.
You realise of course that success in this will push me to even greater heights & questions.
Later.
