wonder if someone can help here. a relative sent me a document with a DOC extension (eg xxxxxxx.DOC) and i can't open it.

when i click on the file to open it, the message pops up saying "Wordpad has caused an error in MSWRD832.CNV Wordpad will now close. If you continue to have problems, try restarting your computer"

well i did that and it doesn't open.

is there a free program that i can d/l that will open and read this DOC file ??

thanks for any help

Robmoski, Wordpad should be able to handle it far as I know. My inclination is that the copy of the .doc you have is corrupt(not uncommon). Ask them to resend.
It's possible that your copy of Wordpad is corrupt too, alternatively, will it open other .docs?

Hi Rob & Ed,

Yes.

Another possibility is that it is not a WORD DOC.
